Menger, Karl#
b. Vienna, Jan. 13, 1902, d. Chicago (USA), Oct. 5, 1985, mathematician; son of Karl Menger von Wolfensgruen. 1928-1936 professor of geometry at the University of Vienna, member of the Vienna Circle; emigrated in 1936, 1937-1946 professor of mathematics at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana (USA), from 1946 professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. His specialisation was topology, the study of geometrical properties and spatial relations. He was also interested in ethics and formal study of human relations.
