Wulfen, Franz Xaver Freiherr von#
b. Belgrade (Yugoslavia), Nov. 5, 1728, d. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), March 16, 1805, priest, botanist, mineralogist. Carried out research on the mineralogy and flora of the Alps. Moved to Klagenfurt in 1773; went on numerous expeditions. Some of the numerous plants discovered and classified by W. have been named after him (e.g. Wulfenia carinthiaca); the yellow lead ore "Wulfenite" also bears his name.
