35 But there is another very interesting system change in the integration of the electricity and transport systems. Electric cars not only consume electricity, they can also produce electricity. Its batteries can deliver some electricity back into the grid. Once today’s low-effi ciency combustion engines are replaced by clean, highly effi cient fuel cells, our cars may produce electricity and feed it to our houses, offi ces, schools or the electricity grid. And the waste product of a fuel cell is hot de-mineralized water which we can use for heating and fresh water. So the transport system, the electricity system and the heating and cooling system will develop over time into one interconnected system. And our cars will not just consume energy but rather produce electricity, heat and fresh water.
