would be possible in any state of the business model over the course of strategic
planning. For future research, the adaptation of planning procedures for business
model innovationcan thereforebean interestingaspect regarding thedifferentiation
ofAI roles. Especially the adaptation of the planningprocedure to the needs of the
companies regarding the own enhancement through AI is of interest. While it is
conceivable that incremental innovationswillonlyhaveamajor impactwhenadded
up, it is to be expected that AI-driven business models cannot only represent
completely new business models, but can also hold potential for deeper changes
within the industry.This reductionallowsforadeeperunderstandingofwhat theAI
will contribute to the envisioned businessmodel,while also solely focusing on the
corechange theAIdoes.Suchasimplifiedviewof thecontributionofAIwithin the
business model innovation is illustrated in the following figure, which shows an
enhancement of the states (S) of the BM, independent of theAI applications used
(Fig. 4).
Thus, the question arises on how an understanding of the role of
AI-enhancement in business model innovation can help entrepreneurs to follow
their ownAIpath.While thedevelopmentofAIapplications isbecomingmoreand
more dynamic, it is expected that the development ofAI applicationswill become
moreandmore rapidly inenterprises.Thiscanbestrengthenedby theapplicationof
approaches such asminimum viable products or test-and-learn mentalities, which
