FrankWerner, Apl. Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil., studiedMathematics from1975–1980 andgraduated
fromtheTechnicalUniversityMagdeburgwithhonors.HedefendedhisPh.D. thesisonthesolution
of special schedulingproblems in1984with”summacumlaude”andhishabilitation thesis in1989.
In 1992, he received a grant from theAlexander-von-Humboldt Foundation. He currentlyworks
as an extraordinary professor at the Faculty ofMathematics of the Otto-von-Guericke University
Magdeburg (Germany). He is aneditor of onemonographandanauthorof three further books, as
well as ofmore than 250 publications in international journals. He is on the Editorial Board of 14
journals, andinparticular isanAssociateEditorof the International Journal ofProductionResearchand
the Journal ofScheduling. Hewasamemberof theProgramCommitteeofmore than50 international
conferences. His research interests are Operations Research, Combinatorial Optimization and
Scheduling.
LarysaBurtseva,Dr., graduated fromtheRostovStateUniversity (Russia) inEconomicCybernetics
(1975)anddefendedherPh.D. thesisonControl inTechnicalSystems(TechnicalCybernetics,1989)at
theRadioelectronicsUniversityofKharkov (Ukraine). Since2000shehasworkedasa fullprofessor
at the Engineering Institute of The Universidad Auto´noma de Baja California, Mexicali, Mexico.
Shehas led theLaboratoryof ScientificComputation since 2005. Shehasmore than70publications
in international journals and conference proceedings, as well as six book chapters. Her research
interests areDiscreteOptimization, particularlyCombinatorialOptimization, Scheduling, and also
packingproblems fordifferent applications. She is amemberof theNational SystemofResearchers
of theNational Council for Science and Technology ofMexico (SNI CONACYT) and is a regular
memberofTheMexicanAcademyofComputation(AMEXCOMP).
YuriN. Sotskov, Prof. D. Sc., finished secondary schoolwith a goldmedal in 1966 andgraduated
fromtheFacultyofAppliedMathematicsof theBelarusianStateUniversityinMinskin1971. In1980,
he defended his Ph.D. thesis at the Institute ofMathematics of theNational Academy of Sciences
of Belarus. In 1991, he defended his D.Sc. thesis at the Institute of Cybernetics of the National
AcademyofSciencesofUkraine.HehasthetitleofProfessor inApplicationofMathematicalModels
andMethods in Scientific Research (Russian Academy of Sciences, 1994). He currently works as
a principal researcher at theUnited Institute of Informatics Problems of theNational Academy of
SciencesofBelarus. Hehasmore than350publications: five scientificmonographs, two text books,
more than 150 papers in international journals, books, and conference proceedings in English on
applied mathematics, operations research, and scheduling. He is on the Editorial Board of four
journals. He has been a supervisor of eight Ph.D. students (defended). In 1998, he received the
NationalPrizeofBelarus inScienceandEngineering.
