4. Analyzing the post-earthquake stability of the embankment, including the evaluation of a possible drastic loss of shear strength. 5. Estimating the extent of deformations resulting from earthquake shaking and reduction in material strengths. 6. Determining the potential for dam failure by the overtopping of deformed embankment, erosion through cracks in the embankment, or other possible failure mechanisms. 7. Evaluating other structures, such as spillway walls adjacent to the embankment, whose failure could cause failure of the embankment dam by allowing overtopping or by creating unfiltered exit points for internal erosion. The presentation will focus on the different seismic aspects to consider in the design of an embankment dam and some of the available numerical methods to evaluate the different failure mechanisms of a dam under seismic conditions, including, stability of the dam, deformation prediction and liquefaction potential. 8
