To figure out these influences in a first step, the relation of impact momentum (i.e. block mass times sliding velocity) and the required reduction of water level to prevent overtopping were analyzed (Fig. 7). For instance, blocks B9 (violet dots) and B3 (red dots) do require significantly less reduction for preventing overtopping than other blocks with comparable impact momentum because their impact direction is less critical.
