1. INTRODUCTION
The Moragolla Hydro PowerPlant (HPP) project involves the implementation
of a Run-of-River Hydropower scheme on the upper reach of Mahaweli River in Sri
Lanka. It will be the latest and presumably the last entry in the upper Mahaweli
Complex, which is a cascade of five reservoirs serving for hydropower generation
and supply of irrigation water.
The reservoir of the Moragolla HPP will be used for daily hydropower peaking
and therefore the time path of the active storage can affect significantly the long-
