thing scientifically unique about informatics. It is perhaps found in the way informatics
activities must span the life cycle of information resources: from design to test to deploy-
ment to evaluation, and re-design based on evaluation. It is perhaps found in the admix-
ture of the promise of computation and the well-being of humanity that attracted so many
creative people to this remarkable field in the first place. Whatever this unique theoretical
perspective might turn out to be, if anything, the journey is undoubtedly worth taking,
and in many ways, it begins with this book.
