Abstract.As amajor entity of smart cities, smart buildings are intelligent envi-
ronments equippedwith computing technologies to improve inhabitants daily life.
Such systems are complex and have to take account several requirements of the
targetedenvironmentandusersneedsfordesignandimplementation.Thesemantic
aspect is important to take into account tomodel such systems.However, research
aboutsmartbuildingsdevelopmentremainslimited. Inthispaper,wedefineasmart
buildingsystemarchitecture.Then,wepresentourmethodologyforsmartbuilding
designandimplementationandweconductacasestudytodemonstrateourpropos-
alwithavalidationandverificationphaseonsystemsbymodel transformations.

1. Introduction
1.1. Context
Inanemergingworldwithahighconsumptionofenergyand rawmaterialswhich leads
tomuchwaste especially in large constructions suchasbuildings, these latter are anew
entity toexploitwithnewtechnology(e.g., InternetofThings)andconcepts(e.g.,energy
saving, gogreen).Also, theexcessiveuseof technologycanbefinelyusedand invested
toprovideanewgenerationofbuildings.Buildingswillbean importantchallenge in the
future, involving space andwastemanagement, smart appliances and inhabitants com-
fortwhichwill leads to smart buildings.With the emergenceof technology andubiqui-
tous systems in smart environments, buildings have become a highly target of use and
increasingly indemand, especially in the smart citiesperspective.
An intelligent building is a smart entity within a smart city. A buildingmight be
smart since it canbe a combinationof several smart concepts (e.g., smart homes, smart
security, smart energysaving, smart parking). It is apiece in the smart citypuzzle along
with other smart environments (e.g.,Hospitals, Transport,Community facilities)which
in turn can be composed of smart Internet of Things (IoT) applications and systems.
IoT is thenetworkgatheringphysicaldevices (e.g., homeappliances, electronics items),
sensors, actuators andcomputer softwareproviding connectivity between these latter in
order toexchangedata for further integration intocomputer systems. IoTgenerallycon-
cern standard devices (e.g., smartphones, computers, tablets) and also extend its use of
