E. als Labortechnikerin am Griffin Mml Hospital Georgia, 1942 bis 1948 chief X-ray technician Grady Mml Hospital. Ab 1948 ist sie als Physikerin am Center for Radiation Control, National Bureau of Standards, Washington D. C. tätig. Sie ist auch in Forschung und Lehre auf dem Gebiet der Radiographie und Radiotherapie tätig; 1960 bis 1961 fungiert sie als Konsulentin bezüglich photographischer Personendosimetrie in der IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) in Wien. M. E. nimmt an zahlreichen in- ternationalen Kongressen teil und beschäftigt sich mit Problemen der Strahlendosimetrie und des Strahlenschutzes.
