Chapter6 OnlineTechnology inKnowledge Transfer DanielBurgos Abstract The transfer of knowledge entails a challenge for any research activity. It drives the promise and results towards implemented and replicable facts. The transfer is frequently crystallised in contracts andpatents, but not solely: scientific communication, general publication, property rights, or publicR&D+ innovation projects generated in the heat of research are also transference products and tools. This article lays out the benefits andweaknesses of these devices, underlining the participationof technology,especiallyonline tech,whenappropriate.Wefoundthat thereareavarietyof resources for transference, and that technology isonlyvalid in someof them. Keywords Transfer ·Commodification · Impact ·Sustainability ·Online technology 6.1 TransferenceVersusCommodificationofResults Spain is a powerhouse of quality researchers and cutting-edge research; the rest of Europe, too.Wehave strong teams, individuals, and institutions inhealth sciences, educationalinnovation,socialpolicies,ITsecurity,andotherfieldswhointerpretand shapedailyrealityandapromisingfuture.However,tangiblecontributions,including thecontactwithcivilsociety,complicitywithcompaniesandotheragencies,andthe actualuseofproducts,services,andresultsbystandingusersorentities,aresomewhat moreelusive.Transference is sometimesnot effective. As researchers,we bear someof the blame.We follow the rules established by eachcalloraccreditationstep inorder to fulfil therequirements,obtainafavourable review, and connect with a new project or activity that will enable continuing the line of investigation or groupwithin a department. Butwe fail at the actual com- modification of the results in themarketplace through serious dialoguewith other stakeholders.
