Mauthausen»356
Botz, referring to the former speakers, wanted to distinguish three different kinds of
«keys» : a) most important events (peaks) in the life stories, b) social structural and
mental reasons of survival, and c) «proper» keys like the self-interpretations of the
survivors : «Why I came in and why I came out ?» Von Plato again emphasised to be
careful using the term «typical» and «representative» ; instead of this he preferred to
speak about the «specific». He thinks that «mimicry» for the survivors was decisive
after 1945 to hide their past ; thus, it was not possible to find «criminals» or sterilised
ones for being interviewed in Germany.
