Abtenau#
Abtenau, province of Salzburg, market town in the district of Hallein, alt. 714 m, pop. 5,324, area 186.96 km2; summer holiday and winter sports town, (367,567 overnight stays) in the Lammertal valley, at the northern foot of the Tennen Mountains. District court, hospital, health resort (magnesium sulphate springs); forestry enterprise run by the Oesterreichische Bundesforste AG (Austrian Federal Forests); timber processing; first documented 977, late Gothic church with Baroque altar (around 1675). The Aubach, Trickl and Taxach falls are in the vicinity.
