b. Frankfurt am Main (Germany), Sept. 27, 1789, d. Vienna, Sept. 30, 1872, painter and lithographic artist, father of Franz Alt and Rudolf von Alt. Studied under F. A. Brand and M. v. Molitor at the Vienna Academy. Created a series of lithographs of the Austrian Alps and the River Danube. His extensive herbarium is on display in the Provincial Museum of Lower Austria.
