Altaussee#

Altaussee, Styria, municipality in the district of Liezen, alt. 719 m, pop. 1,888, area 92.57 km2, health resort (brine baths) and biseasonal tourist town (135,725 overnight stays) on Lake Altausseer See (Styrian Salzkammergut region); beginning of "Salzkammergut Panorama road" onto Loser mountain (1,838 m). - Health resort facilities, art pavilion; salt mining, timber processing, chemical plant. Salt mine in Sandling open to visitors; originally the seat of the provincial salt works. - Late Gothic church with altarpiece by L. Kupelwieser (1860) and late Gothic tabernacle (1520). - near Altaussee Trattenbach waterfall.
