b. Murstetten (municipality of Weissenkirchen an der Perschling, Lower Austria), 1574, d. Vienna, May 7, 1636; general, diplomat, confidant of Archduke Matthias. Excellent knowledge of Turkey's internal politics; in 1625 founded the short-lived order of knights "Christianae Militiae" and the Jesuit College in Krems. See also: Althan(n) Family.
