Arbeitertheater#
Workers' Theatre: Under the aegis of E. Pernerstorfer and S. Grossmann the "Freie Volksbuehne", a theatrical association without a permanent home, was founded in Vienna in 1908. It was intended to give the working class access to the works of German classical and contemporary dramatists, an endeavour which was only partly successful; between the two wars it served as the cabaret and agitprop stage of the "Rote Spieler" ("Red Players" - members of the Socialist Workers' Youth). The authors whose works were performed included J. Soyfer.
