Der ursprüngliche Kufsteiner ist nun seit fast 10 Jahren in Kanada. Während der seine Diplomarbeit noch in Österreich an der Universität Innsbruck schrieb (bereits in Kooperation mit kanadischen Einrichtungen), erwarb er das Doktorat bereits in Kanada.

  • 2003 MSc in Zoology, University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria (World Education Service: equivalent to Canadian BSc + MSc) In collaboration with the Canadian Forest Service (NRCan), Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Canada; Thesis: Comparing aquatic microbial communities in two streams draining forested wetlands in northern Ontario, Canada.
  • 2009 PhD in Environmental Biology & Toxicology, University of Guelph, Guelph, ON, Canada; Thesis: Effects of Climate Warming on Mercury Concentrations in Landlocked Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) in the High Arctic.

Über sich selbst sagt er:

My research interests lie in the interactions amongst biota, their interactions with their abiotic environment, and how this environment is shaped by local and global drivers, or disturbed by stressors (e.g., climate change, pollution, or land use changes). This requires me to think and work multidisciplinary and collaboratively, a challenge which I greatly enjoy.
