Ayrenhoff, Cornelius von#
b. Vienna, May 28, 1733, d. Vienna, Aug. 15, 1819, officer and dramatist, established classicist drama in Austria modelled on French drama and the ideals of J. C. Gottscheds and opposed the appropriation of the stage by the Viennese buffoon (Hanswurst); paved the way for Austrian patriotic poetry as practised later by H. von Collin and F. Grillparzer.
