Banhans, Anton Freiherr von#
b. Miecholoup, Czech Republic (then Michelob), Nov. 8, 1825, d. Vienna, May 26, 1902, politician; father of Karl Banhans. 1870 Minister of Agriculture, 1871-1875 Minister of Trade; introduced the metric system of measurement in Austria, streamlined Austrian railways and initiated an extension of the railway network. From 1890 president of the Danube Steamship Company (DDSG).
