b. Šenov, Czech Republic (Schoenau near Neutitschein), April 19, 1868, d. Vienna, May 15, 1931 (suicide), sculptor, father of the sculptor Franz B. the Younger. Teacher in Villach and 1908-1924 at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. Specialist in wood carving, in particular animal figures where he unifies vitality with stereometric discipline and amalgamates modern and traditional styles.
