Binder, Heinrich Wilhelm Karl Maria, b. Vienna, Dec. 3, 1947, neurologist. Since 1988 university professor in Vienna. Participated in the establishment of the Department of Neurology of the University of Vienna, Vienna General Hospital; since 1989 chief physician and medical director of the Neurological Hospital of the City of Vienna, Maria-Theresien-Schloessl. Pioneer in the field of restorative neurology; 2000 successfully implanted an electrode into the spinal cord of a paraplegic patient to directly stimulate the central pattern generator for locomotion.
