b. Kremsmuenster (Upper Austria), Aug. 14, 1784, d. Vienna, July 15, 1850, physician, university professor in Prague and Vienna, major general in the medical corps of the Austrian army; as a result of his efforts the cowpox vaccination became known in Austria.
