Blutspendewesen#
Blood Donation: In Austria, more than 550,000 blood units were stored in 1999 for substitution of red blood cells and plasma. More than 95% of these units are provided by the Austrian Red Cross, where people donate blood voluntarily and free of charge. Each blood unit is tested several times (e.g. for HIV, hepatitis B and C, etc.). Blood banks were set up for the production and storage of blood-based products.
