b. Klagenfurt (Carinthia), May 17, 1903, d. Vienna, Feb. 15, 1990, geographer. 1954-1983 chairman of the Commission for Research on Land Use at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Several study trips (esp. to Iran) for the purpose of social geographic and morphological studies. Created the concept of a "logical system of geography" and the "Theory of Centrally Located Places".
