Boskovsky, Willibald#
b. Vienna, June 16, 1909, d. Visp (Switzerland), April 21, 1991; violinist, musical director and conductor. From 1933 member of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, 1939-1969 concert master; for many years head of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and of the violin class at the Musikhochschule*; he became world famous as conductor of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's Concert, which he conducted from 1955-1979, in the Viennese tradition, with a violin in his hand.
