Brandl, Herbert#
Brandl, Herbert, b. Graz (Styria), Jan. 17, 1959, painter. From 1978 studied at the Hochschule fuer angewandte Kunst (now University of Applied Art) in Vienna with P. Weibel and H. Tasquil. Together with S. Anzinger and E. Bohatsch, Brandl ranks as one of the representatives of "Neue Malerei" (New Painting), although his paintings have always tended toward the abstract. His works first attracted widespread attention in 1986 in the exhibition "Hacken im Eis" (Vienna and Bern).
