Bundesjugendring, Österreichischer#
Bundesjugendring, Oesterreichischer (Austrian Federal Youth Council), set up in 1953. Umbrella organisation of 22 democratic associations for children and juveniles (as of 1994), represents the interests of children and juveniles as well as of their organisations, platform for juveniles of different ideological, religious and social convictions fostering the development of common viewpoints. In the early 1990s stress was laid on the fight against xenophobia ("Lichtermeer" - mass demonstration) and rightist-extremism, on ensuring that young people can travel at reasonable cost ("Interrail"), as well as on the participation of children and juveniles in political life.
