Credit-Institut AG, Oesterreichisches (Austrian Credit Institute) OeCI, founded 1896 under the name "K. k. privilegiertes Oesterreichisches Credit-Institut fuer Verkehrsunternehmungen und oeffentliche Arbeiten" (Imperial Austrian Credit Institute for Transport and Public Works). Its main task was to raise funds for the completion of traffic routes and infrastructure. In 1918 became "Oesterreichisches Credit-Institut fuer Verkehrsunternehmungen und oeffentliche Arbeiten" (Austrian Credit Institute for Transport and Public Works). Between 1972 and 1975 the Austrian Laenderbank gradually acquired all
interests in the OeCI. As a consequence of the amalgamation of the
"Zentralsparkasse" and "Kommerzialbank Wien" with the Laenderbank to
form Bank Austria AG the OeCI was transferred back to the
Anteilsverwaltung Zentralsparkasse (AVZ). At the end of 1991, the OeCI
shares were purchased by the "Girozentrale", which in 1992 was merged
with the OeCI to form the GiroCredit Bank AG der Sparkassen. In 1997
GiroCredit merged with the Erste oesterreichische Spar-Casse - Bank AG
to form Erste Bank der oesterreichischen Sparkassen AG.
