Deportation#
Deportation: Forcible expulsion of people from their place of residence, individually or in large numbers to predetermined places. At the time of Maria Theresia, people were deported from Austria on religious grounds (Protestants to Transylvania or to the Banat); during the First World War, from the front in Italy and Galicia, and during the Nazi era from the occupied territories of Germany and Austria to concentration camps or to work in forced labour.
