Deutschösterreich#
Deutschoesterreich (German Austria): name of all German-speaking lands and regions in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. After the end of the monarchy, the National Assembly of October 21, 1918, and the Republic, proclaimed on November 12 of the same year, called themselves "German-Austrian". This was meant to denote Austria´s desire for unity with Germany. The 1919 Treaty of Saint-Germain forbade the Austrian Republic to bear the words "German-Austrian" in its official name.
