Eislaufverein, Wiener, (Vienna Ice Skating Club), founded in 1867, the oldest and the most important Austrian club for ice sports (especially for figure skating, for hockey and speed skating), which greatly contributed to the successes of Austrian skaters ( Ice Skating) in international competitions. Its ice rink was originally located on the site of the Central Customs office (now the railway station Wien-Mitte), since 1900 the rink has been based at Heumarkt (in the 3rd district of Vienna). In 1912 a rink with artificial ice was built, until 1927 the largest rink in Europe (used for Tennis during the summer months). From 1961-1964 the Hotel Intercontinental was built on part of the grounds.
