Elisabethians: Originally, various organisations of Franciscan tertiaries engaged in work for the poor and the sick called themselves Elisabethians, after St. Elizabeth of Thuringia (1207-1231). In 1690 three Sisters Hospitallers of St. Elisabeth of the Third Order of St. Francis came from Dueren to Graz, where the first convent and hospital of Elisabethians in Austria was founded in 1694. From Graz, the convents in Vienna (1709), Klagenfurt (1710) were founded and in 1745 a branch was established in Linz. Today, the Elisabethians devote themselves to numerous charitable activities, especially nursing the sick and care of the elderly.
