Enikel Enichel, Enenkel, Jans#
Enikel (Enichel, Enenkel), Jans, b. 1230-1240, d. around 1290, poet and chronicler, citizen of Vienna; around 1280 wrote a "World Chronicle" ("Weltchronik", 30.000 verses) and a "Book of Princes" ("Fuerstenbuch", a chronicle of Austrian rulers, especially those of the Babenberg period, 4258 verses), modelled on medieval chronicles. Both works contain historical facts as well as numerous stories and anecdotes, glorifying chivalric and courtly values and norms, which were even then a part of the past.
