Evangelischer Bund#
Evangelischer Bund (Protestant Association) in Austria was founded in 1903 on the German model "for the protection of German Protestant interests"; it was closely connected with the Los-von-Rom-Bewegung (political movement in German-nationalist circles in Austria, directed against the Catholic church). The Evangelischer Bund saw itself as a guardian against Roman-Catholic attacks. After 1945 it abandoned its anti-Catholic and nationalist stance. Today, it tries to strengthen Protestant identity and to promote a substantive dialogue with other churches.
