Förster, Emil von#
Foerster, Emil von, b. Vienna, Oct. 18, 1838, d. Vienna, Feb. 14, 1909, important architect of late historicism. Son of Ludwig Christian Friedrich Foerster, whose atelier he took over. Launched a considerable number of projects in the private sector and did not join the Civil Service until fairly late. From 1895 headed the department of building construction in the Ministry of the Interior. His brother Heinrich v. F. (1832-1889) was also an architect.
Projects: Ringtheater, 1874 (burnt down in 1881), Bodencreditanstalt
bank, 1885 (both buildings situated in Vienna); numerous residential
buildings, office buildings and hotels.
