b. Linz (Upper Austria), July 1, 1879, d Graz (Styria), July 16, 1934, journalist, at first locksmith and metalworker. Spokesman of the Catholic labour movement in Upper Styria; 1919-1920 member of the Constituent National Assembly, 1920-1923 member of the Nationalrat, 1923-1927 member of the Bundesrat. Leading role in social policy legislation during the First Republic.
