Carp are mainly cultivated in the Waldviertel region and in Styria, trout in Styria, in Carinthia and Upper Austria. Annual carp production, including carp-related fish (tench, whitefish, silver carp, etc.) is approximately 1,200 tons, trout production about 3,000 tons. For carp, domestic production meets approximately 60% of demand, for trout approximately 70 %.
