Fledermaus, Die, operetta by J. Strauss, the Younger, libretto by Carl Haffner and Richard Genee, which premiered on April 5, 1874 in the Theater an der Wien in Vienna; Die Fledermaus is considered the epitome of the classical Viennese operetta and is traditionally performed on New Year's Eve at the Vienna State Opera.
