Frank, Johann Peter#
Frank, Johann Peter, b. Rodalpen (Germany), March 19, 1745, d. Vienna, April 24, 1821, hygienist, 1795-1805 head of the public health service in Lombardy and from 1809 in Vienna. Reorganized the Vienna General Hospital, and with his work "System einer vollstaendigen medicinischen Polizey" (system of a sanitary police", 6 vols., 1779-1819) established hygiene as a scientific discipline. Treated mental patients and taught that insanity should be considered an illness. Together with R. Vetter he founded the pathological-anatomical museum of the Vienna General Hospital. Numerous works on medical subjects.
