Frauenkirchen#
Frauenkirchen, Burgenland, town in the district of Neusiedl am See, alt. 126 m, pop. 2,634, area 31.95 km2, situated in the fertile plain east of Lake Neusiedl in the Seewinkel area near the Hungarian border. Hospital of the Brothers Hospitaler, commercial school; cement plant, clothing industry, poultry farm, construction firms, wine cultivation, tourism. - Baroque parish and pilgrimage church (1695-1702 by F. Martinelli) with two towers, stucco and interior paintings, magnificent high altar (around 1700); Franciscan monastery (renovated in 1686/1687, expanded in 1720-1733) with a silver statue of the Virgin (1695); Calvary (after 1683) with spiral ramp; former Baroque palace "Esterházy-Schloessel" (today a school); storage construction, 1766.
