Gallas, Matthias, Graf von Campo#
b. Trento (Italy), Sept. 16, 1584, d. Vienna, April 25, 1647, general. After Wallenstein´s assassination (in which he had not participated) he received Wallenstein's Friedland estate in Bohemia and led the imperial army (command nominally taken over by Ferdinand III). While G. defeated the Swedes at Noerdlingen in 1634, he fought without success ("destroyer of armies") against Torstenson from 1634-1645 and resigned his command in 1645.
