Gamlitz#
Gamlitz, Styria, market town in the district of Leibnitz, alt. 278 m, pop. 3,046, area 34.50 km2, popular destination for summer tourists (23,998 overnight stays), situated on the lower Gamlitzbach stream in the wine-growing region of the southern parts of Styria, close to the Slovene border. Customs post. Main livelihood: cultivation of fruit and wine, also container production, hotels. Museum of viticulture and exhibitions in Ober-G. palace (17th /18th century, interior after 1800); Gothic church (first documented mention 1170, Baroque modifications and further changes in the 19th century), high altar (1880), late Roman tombstones.
