Gebhard, Heiliger, Fest 27. August#
b. Bregenz (Vorarlberg), 949 d. Constance (Germany), Aug. 27, 995, patron saint of the province of Vorarlberg. As Gebhard II bishop of Konstanz from 979 to 995, youngest son of count Ulrich VI (Uzo, Udalrich) of Bregenz, played a leading role in the early occidental monastery reform movement. His remains were exhumed in 1134 and 1259. He was greatly venerated in the Bregenz area in the 18th century. The pilgrimage church at Gebhardsberg Hill is believed to be his birth place. Vorarlberg held a Catholics' Day on the occasion of his 1000th anniversary.
