Gesamtschule#

Gesamtschule, type of secondary school with similar scope as the Comprehensive School and Allgemeine Mittelschule, established in Austria from 1971 as an experimental type of school (especially integrated comprehensive school). The educational scheme of these schools is based on subject-related (German, English, mathematics) learning groups at three different levels, accompanied by additional coaching and supporting courses; in 1982 this scheme was made obligatory at the Austrian Hauptschule schools (reform since 1985).
