Giesl von Gieslingen, Wladimir Freiherr#
b. Pecs, Hungary (then Fuenfkirchen), Feb. 18, 1860, d. Salzburg, April 20, 1936, diplomat, general of the cavalry; uncle of Adolph Giesl-Gieslingen. Delegate in Turkey, 1909 in Montenegro, finally in Belgrade. After presenting the Austrian ultimatum in Belgrade, prematurely broke off diplomatic relations to Serbia on July 25, 1914 on the instructions of L. Count Berchtold, Minister for Foreign Affairs. This triggered the outbreak of World War I.
