Hoersching, Upper Austria, market town in the district of Linz-Land, alt. 296 m, pop. 5,101, area 19.82 km2, southwest of Linz in the Welser Heide plain. Linz Airport: flight coordination centre of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, federal office of civil aviation (air traffic control), freight departments of international airlines, Austrian air rescue service, Austrian Armed Forces (military headquarters for Upper Austria, Vogler air base, meteorological information service); pumping station, customs office and customs authority department. 3,417 employees 1991, service sector dominates (numerous large international forwarding businesses, transport companies, central depot of a trading chain for Upper Austria and Salzburg). Manufacturing industry: dye works, plastics industry (Perspex), steel processing (large fitting shop, boiler construction), manufacture of shower screens and mirror cabinets, mill, concrete factory, production of bituminous emulsion, separation plant for industrial waste currently under construction. In the vicinity (Rutzing, Holzleiten), ancient cemeteries and Celtic settlement (reconstructed). Granted status of market town in 1993. Parish church with Romanesque and Gothic components, extensive alterations, late-Baroque high altar, painting by F. A. Maulbertsch (1771); tombs (16th /17th centuries)
