Haempel, Oskar#
Haempel, Oskar, b. Malec (Poland), May 12, 1882, d. Vienna, Jan. 2, 1953, hydrobiologist. From 1908 at the Agricultural and Chemical Research Institute in Vienna, where he researched fishing biology, 1910-1934 taught at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Vienna. Researched the biology of alpine lakes. Renowned for the pregnancy test he developed with E. Glaser and the test for determining the human gender (Glaser-Haempelscher Fischtest). From 1928 head of the Federal Institute for Fishing Biology in Weissenbach by Lake Attersee.
