Hainisch, Marianne geborene Perger#
Hainisch, Marianne (nee Perger), b. Baden (Lower Austria), March 25, 1839, d. Vienna, May 5, 1936, founder and leader of the Austrian women's movement, mother of Michael Hainisch; 1870 demanded the establishment of a form of Austrian secondary school for girls specialising in natural sciences, the "Realgymnasium", and women's right to higher education; 1902 founded the "Union of Austrian Women's Associations" which by 1914 consisted of 90 associations and of which she was chairwoman until 1918. After World War I she dedicated herself to welfare work and became a member of the peace movement. After the death of B. von Suttner in 1914 H. succeeded her as head of the peace commission in the Union of Austrian Women's Associations. Initiated "Mother's Day" (celebrated in Austria since 1924).
